A Broken Coda

Think of your biggest fear. Think of the one thing you would never want to happen to you during your one chance of life on this ball of dirt we call home. Then imagine it happening. My one fear has always been to be diagnosed with a mental illness. Now my biggest fear is my life. My daily life.

Dominic Lyne

About

In 2010, Dominic Lyne begun his journey through the mental health system. The start of this journey is explored in his Cycle-2 series, and has been an ongoing struggle for him daily. For someone to have their entire world flipped on its head and dissected is a painful experience, not only for themself, but also everyone around them. The original A Broken Coda series of video diaries was the next step in cataloguing his journey. Having waited for over two years, Dominic finally begun his treatment for severe personality disorders in September 2012.

A Broken Coda: A Journey in Mental Health charts Dominic’s journey through his treatment and shows others what it is like having to go through intense therapy on a weekly basis, but not only that, the series is also designed to give hope to those who are facing the same situation. It aims to give hope, and direction. This journey was one of the hardest challenges in Dominic’s life, but one he faced head on no matter how hard it got.

The decision to have all the emotions he experienced broadcast publicly was not an easy one for Dominic to make as it opened his personal life to complete strangers across the globe, but he decided that if any of his experiences could help change the lives of others, or help make more people aware of the challenges and struggles those with mental health have to face in order to be a part of the world, then this exposure of his intimate workings would be worth it.

The original series of video diaries finished when, after 22 months, Dominic reached the end of his intense therapy based treatment programme.

Picking up a decade later, A Broken Coda: A Journey Through Trauma charts Dominic Lyne’s journey as he receives Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy for cPTSD, and grief management, after witnessing the death of his best-friend in 2013.
